This one-of-a-kind scarf measures approximately 21.5 x 22 inches and is made with 100% 19mm charmeuse silk and botanically dyed with minerals and a local medicinal plant called goldenrod. We created the design using a shibori method. This scarf is perfect to wear around the neck, as a bag accessory, a headband or wrist!
About our materials and methods: Shibori is an ancient Japanese dyeing technique that uses objects to weigh down materials and is then bounded to make different shapes and designs.
Goldenrod is also considered a weed and wild flower. It can be used to treat head colds, inflammation and to clear the sinuses. You can make a tea out of both the leaves and the flower. If you are foraging these plants, please be aware of the bees and avoid cutting too many in the same area. Although they grow plentiful, we need to be conscious of the tiny wildlife that benefit from its gifts too. We like to cut the branches that have already fallen over. We use the same dye bath for our material, and it makes a range of colors, from vibrant yellows to deep forest greens.
In the winter months we make green using organic carrot tops.
Care: Our scarves are handwashed several times in hypoallergenic clear soap, hung dry and then steamed before packaging. They can be dry cleaned or hand washed with cold water and mild soap then hung dry. Warm iron if needed on the silk/delicate setting.
